Nobody is asking you to give up all worldly desires to become a saint. It's just that sometimes, once you actually embark on something, you'll realize that what had been holding you back is not your ability, but your willingness to do it.
I have nothing against perfectionism, but sometimes it's wise not to force yourself too much. You know, as the saying goes, never bite off more than you can chew.
